Hours: 37.5 hours per week - Monday to Friday 9.00am to Friday 5.00pm

Main purpose and scope of the job:

Domestic Abuse Navigator (Refuge) are responsible for providing tailored support to women and children fleeing domestic abuse. 

A key member of the Stop Domestic Abuse team, Domestic Abuse Navigators (Refuge) act as an initial point of contact for women and children entering safe accommodation, working to manage risk, identify need, and assisting our clients to move toward living a violence free life. 

To ensure that children’s and vulnerable adults’ welfare is safeguarded in accordance with Stop Domestic Abuse’s Protection from Abuse Policy, the Portsmouth Safeguarding Children Board and the Portsmouth Safeguarding Adults Board policies and procedures, including making appropriate onwards referrals when required.  

To positively assist clients with benefits claims, GP registration, access to education and accessing other local services.  

To complete target hardening assessments for clients resettling in Portsmouth, issuing basic safety devices (when available), liaising with landlords to secure installation of larger security measures, advising clients of safety measures and making referrals to external agencies to complete larger security improvements as required.

To work within Portsmouth’s ‘Team Around the Worker’ approach, both as the Lead Professional and where another agency is taking the Lead Professional role.

To participate in the on-call out of hours service rota. This is a 24-hour, 7 day a week service running outside of usual service hours. 

It is essential that the postholder has a driving licence and access to a car for work purposes as this role covers multiple sites in Portsmouth.

The Portsmouth Service is staffed 9am-9pm Monday to Friday and 10am-6pm Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays. Staff will work evenings and weekends on a rota basis and provide on call services to deal with emergencies and refuge referrals.
