Stalking

Stalking involves fixated, obsessive, unwanted and repeated behaviours by a stranger, an ex-partner, friend or family member.

Stalking can happen to anyone and you are never to blame.

Stalking involves ongoing, unwanted behaviour that causes distress, fear or anxiety. Trusting your instincts is important – if something doesn’t feel right, it’s worth taking seriously. If you believe you may be experiencing stalking, our Stalking Advocacy and Support Service is here to help.

Stalking can take many forms, including persistent unwanted contact, sending gifts, harassment, damage to property, or physical or sexual harm. It may happen both online and offline, with perpetrators using calls, messages, fake profiles or contact through friends, family or workplaces to try to gain access or control.

Stalking is a serious criminal offence. Even without direct threats, repeated contact that causes distress or fear is not acceptable. Our specialist advocacy workers can support you to understand your options and stay safe.

Specialist support

Our specialist advocacy service supports people affected by stalking across Southampton, Portsmouth, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, offering safety planning, emotional and practical support, advice on cyber stalking, advocacy, and help accessing other services as needed.

“For me it was all about talking to someone. Sharing the experience of what I had been going through and knowing that I wasn’t on my own or being seen as weak. Speaking to someone who understands that it’s not just women who go through this.”
