Stop Domestic Abuse Day

On 5 July, we are launching the first ever ‘Stop Domestic Abuse Day’: a day to raise awareness of domestic abuse, to stimulate conversation about this often-taboo topic in our community, and to highlight the help available for those suffering in silence. We will also be fundraising to buy a new refuge in the area for women and children fleeing domestic abuse. We aim to raise at least £1,500 to reflect the 1 in 5 children in the UK who will be affected by domestic abuse at some point in their childhood (NSPCC, 2016). Inspired by the same shocking statistic, we will invite the public, politicians and celebrities to help us to cycle 150km on 5 July – either by joining us at our principal event site in Leigh Park, where we will have a static bicycle set up, or by cycling on their own bike/at the gym and sending in a selfie of their contribution towards our goal.

We would love to invite you to join us on 5 July to show your support for Stop Domestic Abuse Day. Your endorsement will really help us to raise awareness of this important issue and event. You can take some photos with our fundraisers and, if you’d like to, take a turn on the bicycle to help us meet our 150km goal.

If you are unable to attend, you could support us by 1) posting about Stop Domestic Abuse Day on social media, using the hashtag #stopdomesticaabuseday, 2) making a donation via Virgin Money, 3) cycling a few kms towards our goal on your own bike/at the gym and sending us/tweeting a photo using the hashtag (making a corresponding donation if you’d like to).
